School Librarian Technology PLG

Are you interested in learning techniques and best practices for the effective integration of technology into your school library?
Then this is the professional learning group for you!


The School Librarian Technology PLG is a sustained professional development offering (4 meetings – 2 Fall, 2 Spring).

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SCHOOL LIBRARIAN TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONAL LEARNING GROUP:
  • Discover techniques to integrate technology effectively as a library/media specialist.
  • Create methods to share technology integration strategies with teachers and students.
  • Discover emerging technology strategies, tools, and resources.
  • Time to explore, research, and develop technology integration strategies.
  • Provide support and encouragement for other library/media professionals who want to integrate technology into their library and school.

FORMAT OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING GROUP:
The format of this professional learning group will be a train-the-trainer model. THESE GROUPS ARE NOT FOR TECHNOLOGY NOVICES. Participants should possess INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY SKILLS. Participants will be instructed on specific technology integration strategies, best practices, resources, and tools. They will then be able to research and develop methods for sharing these strategies, best practices, resources, and tools with the teachers and students at their schools. Participants will be expected to maintain an implementation log to document use of the strategies. Sharing time with other participants as well as classroom observations and model lessons may also be included in the group meetings.

Please complete the application form by FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2017.

DATES & FURTHER DETAILS
Elementary Group - First Meeting is Thursday, October 12, 2017, at the UARIC.
Secondary Group - First Meeting is Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at the UARIC.
K-12 Group - First Meeting is Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the UARIC.


The dates for the rest of the year will be selected at the first meeting of each group.
Participants are expected to attend all meetings of their group. However, one absence is permitted under extenuating circumstances. Participants may also make up an absence or schedule conflict by attending a different group meeting.


Acceptance into the group is automatic. 
Confirmation of receipt of the application will be sent on Monday, September 18, 2017, but if you read the sentence in bold letters immediately proceeding this one, then you can proceed to submit whatever your system requires for you to attend the session after you have submitted your application.

This is ahead of the 2 week window for professional leave required by some systems.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION


Only the instruction and training location are provided by the UA/UWA In-Service Center.
THE SCHOOL OR SYSTEM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SUBSTITUTE PAY AND TRAVEL (IF NECESSARY).
