School teams of 3-6, made up of the IP, an administrator and 1-3 teacher leaders (Because this institute will be designed to support transfer of QQ practices to classrooms, a team committed to leading this effort is optimal.)

What is the focus?

Quality questioning engages students and teachers as partners in learning that advances disciplined thinking and generates formative feedback focused on academic outcomes. This two-day institute will deepen knowledge, promote reflection, and engage participants in planning related to:

  • Shifts in student and teacher beliefs and skills to promote a more equitable, learning-focused, and metacognitive classroom community.
  • Creation of risk-free, but accountable, classroom environments where students learn from mistakes and engage in dialogue to learn from one another;
  • Formulation of questions that engage student in deep and critical thinking and produce feedback teachers can use to determine next instructional steps;
  • Use of questioning strategies to (a) engage all students in thinking and responding, and (b) scaffold student thinking and productive participation in learning through thinking, speaking, listening.

Drawing from the 2nd Edition of Quality Questioning (2017), this hands-on learning experience will engage teams in planning that will facilitate transfer of quality questioning strategies to their classrooms and support collaborative work to engage colleagues in job-embedded learning. Follow-up to the two-day institute will offer the QQ learning community a number of electronic networking opportunities, including webinars and an online discussion group.

Participants should purchase and bring a copy of Quality Questioning, Second Edition (Corwin, 2017) to this professional learning. Other materials will be provided.

Because we have state funding for IPN through September 30, we can use state funding to help defray the cost of this Institute. The registration fee will cover all other expenses not covered by state funds, including meals and lodging.

Please register at http://www.bestpracticescenter.org at your earliest convenience. We must have at least 30 people registered to make this Institute viable. Deadline for registration is April 25.
