International Reading Association

Frequently Asked Questions about Reading Instruction
This site from the Florida Center for Reading Research contains answers to frequently asked questions about reading instruction. The FCCR home page also contains numerous instructional and web resources for teachers.

Alabama Reading Association
The Alabama Reading Association (ARA) is a professional organization for educators and others interested in improving literacy and promoting reading.

National Institute for Literacy
Bringing technology to the literacy field through LINCS, a state-of-the-art Internet-based information and communication system. LINCS operates through a network of partners nationwide to provide a single point of access to a broad array of literacy-related information and public discussion lists as well as technology training opportunities. The site also features Putting Reading First (58 page document).

National Reading Panel
This Web site is updated regularly with information about NRP publications and materials, as well as upcoming speaking engagements by Panel members. This site is also an archive, featuring the congressional charge to the NRP, biographies of NRP members, meeting minutes, and other historical information. The site also features an unabridged version of Putting Reading First.

ReadWriteThink
ReadWriteThink, established in April of 2002, is a partnership between the International Reading Association (IRA), the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and the MarcoPolo Education Foundation. NCTE and IRA are working together to provide educators and students with access to the highest quality practices and resources in reading and language arts instruction through free, Internet-based content.

This site contains a database of resources for children’s literature.

Bookhive
This site categorizes and reviews children’s trade books. BookHive is designed for children ages birth through twelve, their parents, teachers or anyone interested in reading about children's books. Providing reader's advisory service, this site contains hundreds of recommended book reviews in a variety of reading levels and interest areas.

Mrs. Henriksen's Poetry Pages
This site contains a large database of children's poems.
