Participants will also be introduced to several databases housed in the Alabama Virtual Library. Participants will explore the databases, taking note of how they can use AVL in their classroom.

Foundations of Mentoring First-Year Teachers (K-12)

Focus: This training is designed for school-level Mentors or system-level personnel who will have responsibility for training Mentors in their systems. The first training session of Foundations of Mentoring First-Year Teachers will focus on the following: roles and responsibilities of mentors; relationships between mentor and novice teacher, as well as between mentor and administrator; effective communications; and, principles of mentor coaching. Additional two-hour, after-school sessions will be held throughout the academic year dealing with other topics of importance to mentors.
Assessing Your Potential to Be A Principal – PEP (K-12)

Focus: In this insightful, innovative program, participants perform exercises and engage in activities that focus on measurable administrative skills. PEP focuses on four main areas: communication skills, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and personal characteristics of effective leaders. These skill areas are broken down into 14 specific skill clusters. Participants’ skills are assessed through writing, interviewing, group activities, and in-basket items. Each participant receives a wealth of information reflecting his/her administrative current strengths and areas for development to become an effective leader. The assessment is designed for educators who are considering entering an administrative leadership program. Due to the comprehensiveness of the assessment, only 6 participants will be accepted and each one must commit to attending all of the scheduled sessions. This assessment is valued at $400 per participant, but is free to the 6 selected.

Participants will learn about podcasting as they create their own podcasts using Audacity, a free sound recording and editing program. Participants will also explore PowerMediaPlus, which is a curriculum-based multimedia system freely provided to Alabama teachers by APTPlus. Participants will also learn how to use PowerMediaPlus to host podcasts. Please Note: This workshop is NOT for beginners.
